The Denver Traveler

The 411 on the 5280

by Shawn Marie on May 26th, 2008

When perusing things related to Denver you may have stumbled upon the numbers 5280 and wondered what they were all about. We are here to help you!

Denver is the Mile High City. A mile is 5,280 feet. Denver, though in a valley is 5,280 feet above sea level- hence being a mile high and the Mile High City! One may not think that the Roman Empire or the British had much if anything to do with Denver- yet it was their struggle to decide upon the measurement of a mile that lead to it being marked at 5,280 feet!

Many restaurants and stores use 5280 in their names or to dream up specials. As an example, we have: 5280 Equestrian, 5280 Digital, 5280 Pool Cues, 5280 Gymnastics, and 5280 Solutions.

However, when planning a trip to the Mile High City, you may want to pick up a copy of 5280 Magazine! You guessed it- it is all about Denver. It is also locally staffed and run, so as you read you will be getting the inside scoop; a great resource to delve into for your visit to our mile high town.
