A part of my birthday celebration was spent at El Padrino. I love this place! It is crazy and fantastic in its craziness. Nothing matches, the Cantina swells in volume as the night goes on, there is always Latino flavored entertainment (sometimes boxing or soccer, sometimes musical shows)- and yet, I feel at home.

Upon my arrival in Colorado, one of the first things I noticed about my new home state was how outdoorsy it was. Everyone was biking everywhere, there were a ton of people walking down the street, and there was no shortage of outdoors shops everywhere I looked.

Not only does Denver have a professional football team, a professional baseball team, a professional hockey team, a professional lacrosse team, and a score of not-so-professional teams, but we also have a pro basketball team! I’m talking about the Denver Nuggets! Their home turf is the Pepsi Center, which is conveniently located to many hotels and transportation for the basketball fans from out of state.

Disney’s Princess’ left town Sunday after their two week stint at The Denver Coliseum, hopefully many wishes were granted while they were here.

Roller Derby Hits the Mile High

Since 2004, the Rocky Mountain Roller Girls have been kicking butt and taking names on the roller derby circuit. Made up of two home teams (The Red Ridin Hoods and the Sugar Kill Gang) and two traveling teams (5280 Fight Club and The Contenders) the Rocky Mountain Roller Girls are all girl skaters who completely own and operate their own league. They are members of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association, and are very active in the community, often donating their time and energy to local charities and events.

The Colorado Avalanche- or the Avs, as the locals call them – arrived in Denver in 1995, relocating from Quebec City. They have a strong fan following, and are currently celebrating their 500th regular season win since coming to Denver.
