Politics in the Mile High

by Alicia on February 1st, 2008

Wondering what the hold up was yesterday afternoon on your way home from work? Well, the reason for the snarl was more than just regular rush hour traffic.

President Bush came to Denver yesterday for a fund raiser for Senate candidate Bob Schaffer. As a result, I-70 was blockaded in places as the motorcade passed, and then again when the President returned to the airport to leave.

Not only was Bush in town, but Bill Clinton (with daughter Chelsea) and Barack Obama were here as well!

Former President Clinton was here to stump for his wife, Hillary. He spoke to a large crowd at the basketball arena at DU a few hours after Obama. A sudden heavy snow storm prevented a lot of people from attending Clinton’s speech, but didn’t hamper the thousands who showed up to see Obama speak.

February 5th is the date for the Caucus here in Denver, and everyone is excited to see the outcome. What is a Caucus and why is it important, you might ask? Well, to be honest, I hadn’t ever heard of it before I moved here. I’m sure they had them in my home state of Nevada, but I hadn’t ever participated in one. The link will give you a general idea of the hows and whys of the Caucus.

And of course, the 2008 Democratic National Convention will be right here in Denver in August.
