High Notes in High Altitude
Today, June 6th, marked the opening day for the 2008 Opera Season up in Central City! This years season is packed with some exciting shows and runs through the summer, so anytime you have a trip planned, you can add a night at the Opera in the beautiful Mountains as well!
The Central City Opera House was built in 1878 and had a fine grand opening, only to be followed by the mines of Central City panning out and the Exquisite Theatre fell into disrepair. However, a volunteer effort to restore the building took place in 1932 and the splendor and magic have been alive and renewed ever since. Not a single season has been missed since the renovation. The 550 seat Opera House hosts performances by the fifth oldest Opera Company in the nation.
Just a short drive out of the town of Denver, Central City offers a cool breeze and refreshing view packed with quaint surroundings and rich history. It is a spot not to be missed and should be added to everyone’s travel itinerary. A lovely walk, a reminiscent lunch and some good honest gambling can be had by all. And to top it off- A Night at The Opera!
Central City Opera will be offering the following shows:
The Rape of Lucretia- performances from June 6th to June 20th
This is a special season opener to celebrate the National Performing Arts Convention, NPAC happening in Denver!
Susanah- performances throughout July and August.
