The Denver Traveler

Chicago Comes to Denver

by Shawn Marie on March 21st, 2008

When I was a kid growing up in Denver I often fantasized about other cities- were their streets the same? Did they have similar intersections, architecture or graffiti? As I grew into a teenager, Chicago was one of my favorite cities- at least in my mind. I was a retro hippy and devoured information pertaining to the Chicago 8. (Most known to history as the Chicago seven, in my rebellion I kept Bobby Seale in the group.) Once I was old enough to vote, I was living in California and actually got to vote for Tom Hayden. As I became quite the traveler in my twenties, I got to visit Chicago and was not disappointed. “Chicago,” I would tell friends, “is like Denver and New York in a blender.”

Of course, Chicago, is its own unique town and now opening at The Chez Artiste is The Chicago 10 which is a unique media blender of the Conspiracy Trial itself! A film like this- showing at the quirky Landmark Theatre that is the Chez Artiste?
Why this makes Denver just about as Cosmopolitan as New York!

The Chez Artiste: 2800 South Colorado Blvd at Amherst- In the same shopping area as Tuesday Morning and The Sunflower Market.

I attended college in Colorado and would visit Denver on weekends whenever I could. Denver always felt foreign and familiar at the same time. It kinda seemed like Chicago’s quieter cousin.
