As we have mentioned before, Denver has yet to produce a President- but we do have a few Dolly Madison Ice Cream shops and Bakeries! Dolly Madison was first lady to President James Madison.

We also mentioned the connection between President Eisenhower and Denver, but failed to let you know that Mamie Eisenhower, his wife and therefore First Lady, though not born here- grew up here.

John Hinckley, who tried to assassinate President Reagan because of his love for Jodie Foster, planned the assassination while staying in a motel on West Colfax where he reportedly walked across the street to eat every meal at the McDonalds

In 1908, Denver hosted The Democratic Convention, nominating William Jennings Bryan as their candidate. William Jennings Bryan ran for president and lost- three separate times.

This Monday’s Mix N Mash is dedicated to the man whom we honor on this very day, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

What most folks may not know about Denver- is that it hosts the nation’s largest Martin Luther King Jr. parade and rally every Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The Marade starts at 8:30 am at City Park and winds it way through town to convene at Civic Center Park for a large rally that commemorates the life of Martin Luther King Jr.

This year was no exception- so many gathered and marched and swayed with the spirit of Martin Luther King Jr, despite the single digit temperature and the flurries of snow. If you missed the Marade today, make a trip to park hill and pay homage to Martin Luther King Jr. in front of his bronzed image.

Thank you, Martin Luther King Jr.- for all you have done and for the legend we all aspire to understand and make real.
