Not to mention how traveling in the snow can be a hassle. If you are of either of these mind sets, we at The Denver Traveler would like to offer some suggestions for traveling to Denver without ever getting off the couch!

Wrap yourself up in a blanket, on a spot with good light and curl up with a book that will bring you to Denver without any fuss. There is, Instant Karma: The Heart and Soul of a Ski Bum by Wayne K Sheldrake, where Mr. Sheldrake examines his place in a community of ski bums who have thrown off the constraints of normalcy to live life on their own terms. May we also suggest Michael Cunningham’s, Specimen Days which consists of three stories where all the characters are either trying to get to Denver or spend time navigating their way around a Denver that is written in history and a speculation of Denver in the future. Another great Denver read is Dick Krek’s, Murder at the Brown Palace: A True Story of Seduction and Betrayal that will transport you back to a nostalgic and mysterious Denver with every turn of the page.

If your couch is right near your TV set and you would like to dazzle your eyes with the sight of Denver- then pop some popcorn and spin these DVDs: The Unsinkable Molly Brown A glorious cinemascope Technicolor biography of one of Denver’s most famous and infamous residents. Things to do in Denver When You’re Dead will give you a more modern view of Denver even if through a slightly filtered lens. They had to dirty up the Bluebird Theater, no one can just walk into Elitche’s Amusement Park, and you would be hard pressed to be able to afford the studio Gabrielle Anwar lives in on a Ski Instructor’s salary- never mind that Denver hasn’t any mountains, but maybe the whole movie takes place during the off season. If it is a silly chick flick you are in the mood for, The Favor starring Harley Jane Kozak, Elizabeth Mcgovern, Brad Pitt and Bill Pullman may do the trick. Most of the characters end up in Denver, where exactly, I couldn’t tell you as the Denver scenes are inside mostly and when they are outside it looks more like a town in the foothills or mountains. Denver is a valley and residential city- but we are talking about escaping and sometimes that requires the suspension of disbelief.

Happy trails to all you armchair travelers, may our suggestions be a trip.

Post from: The Denver Traveler

Monday Mix n Mash!

Announcements

Attractions

Events

Family Fun

Miscellaneous

Music

Nightlife

Sound Like a Local - Local "speak"

Sports & Recreation

Candy-Cane-Festival

Mix-N-Mash

Short-List

Sports

The-Avalanche

The-Broncos

The Denver Traveler introduces the Monday Mix n’ Mash where we give you updates from the weekend and a glimpse into life in Denver.
