Bike to Work Day!

Bike to Work Day!

Denver is a super bike friendly town, as you well know. What you may not know is that all of the public transportation actively encourages bike riders to take part, with racks on the front of RTD Buses and large doors on the Light Rail to accommodate bike riders of all kinds when the ride is just a little too long. They want you to use public transport and bikes so much, RTD Denver has announced that June 25th is Bike to Work Day! Bike to Work Day is a Colorado tradition, starting more than 25 years ago in …read more

What Time is Free Swim?

What Time is Free Swim?

The answer is- All Summer Long!
Have you got children that are more like tad poles, mermaids, otters or dolphins?
What we are really trying to ask is- do your kids love to swim?
Don’t worry about getting a hotel with a pool for your stay in Denver this summer; our Mayor, Mr. Hickenlooper, has decreed that the city of Denver waive all the admission fees for children to the 29 Recreation Centers throughout the Denver Parks and Recreation Department. Thirteen facilities have indoor pools and eleven facilities have outdoor pools.
No matter where you are staying in Denver, a Recreation Center …read more

Tuesday’s Traveler’s Tip

Tuesday’s Traveler’s Tip

As we have mentioned, Denver is a mile high above sea level, which makes the air feel thin. This can cause a light headed sensation, make one feel hungry and make one sleepy. Many athletes, the world over, come to Denver and Colorado’s mountains to train- with the thought that if they can survive and thrive through their regime here- they can conquer their opponents anywhere.
Our number one tip to survive and enjoy the air and atmosphere here in Denver is:
WATER!
Drink lots and lots of water. It is really important to stay hydrated and even more so in our …read more

Dust Off The Bikes…

Dust Off The Bikes…

It’s time for a ride!
Honestly, I don’t think there’s any time of year that residents of Denver DON’T ride their bikes! I have seen more than a few brave souls flying through the snow and slush on their bikes, heads down and head lights on. Now that the weather is starting to warm up, however, more and more people are heading out into the beautiful Colorado sunshine to ride.
Denver is a super bike friendly city, with many cyclists foregoing their cars except for the longest of trips. Especially in the more urban areas, you’re more likely to see cyclists …read more

That Sinking Feeling…

That Sinking Feeling…

Traffic was a nightmare on the commute tonight when a 40 foot sinkhole collapsed part of I-25 north bound. The cause of the sinkhole was said to be a water main break, and estimated to be up to 16 feet deep.
The sinkhole is located a quarter mile north of the Interstate 70 interchange, locally known as the Mousetrap, right near 56th Avenue.
For me, it took me two and a half hours to make the trip from my work to my home, which usually takes about 20 minutes in the afternoons. There’s no word on when it will be cleared …read more

Let It Snow… Let It Snow… Okay, Make It Stop!

Let It Snow… Let It Snow… Okay, Make It Stop!

Well, the snow just keeps falling here in the Mile High City. One just has to take a look around to see the white stuff piled up on everything from cars to mailboxes to the sidewalks. As a desert baby, it was disconcerting, yet magical, the first time I woke up and saw the ground covered in a sparkling blanket of frozen goodness. I imagined catching snow flakes on my tongue, making a snow man, maybe a snow ball fight or two…
And then I fell on the ice, and the love affair was over.
If you’re heading for Denver …read more

Denver International Airport – Getting Into (or Out of) Denver

Denver International Airport – Getting Into (or Out of) Denver

Denver International Airport, DIA- or Madonna’s Bra Rack, as I like to call it, is the 6th busiest in Airport in the nation and the 10th busiest in the world. DIA takes some getting to and maneuvering around once there. Much more complicated then Stapleton, Denver’s old airport- but then travel in general is a little more complicated these days.

The Colorado and Moscow Ballets – Dueling Nutcrackers

The Colorado and Moscow Ballets – Dueling Nutcrackers

The Colorado Ballet has been shaking it up this season with daring ballets and a kicky hip campaign. However, tradition is tradition and The Nutcracker lives on. In the Colorado Ballet’s own words, “We think sugar, spice, and adrenaline are nice. Give your holidays a little shot in the sugarplum.” There are still many performances this week and through December 24th at The Ellie Caulkins Opera House or known locally as ‘The Ellie’. If you have been downtown near The Denver Center Performance Complex you will know you’re close by all the cars trying to get into the parking structure …read more
