Happy Cesar Chavez Day

Happy Cesar Chavez Day

To Honor Cesar Chavez all city agencies will be closed today- Monday, March 31st.
This means, City Government and all the Denver Public Libraries will be closed for business.

To Honor Cesar Chavez, The Denver Traveler asks you all to thank a Farm Worker, Field Worker, Crop Planter, or Gardener. At the very least have a tasty salad and celebrate the fact that people work very hard to work the land to provide the produce and Cesar Chavez devoted his life to their rights.

Namaste

Namaste

I love Indian food. No really, I do, and since we moved to Denver I have been missing my favorite place in Las Vegas. So imagine my joy to find that Shawn Marie knew of two excellent places right here in the Mile High that would more than ease my longing for Las Vegas.
The first of these fabulous places is Namaste. Located at 3355 S. Wadsworth Blvd in Lakewood, Namaste boasts a killer lunch buffet that has to be tasted to be believed. For $6.95 per person you are presented with Tandoor Chicken, naan, Paneer, mango custard, and …read more

Cesar Chavez Day Celebration!

Cesar Chavez Day Celebration!

There are 8 states and 12 cities that celebrate and observe Cesar Chavez Day. Denver and Colorado are on those lists!
César Estrada Chávez was born on March 31, 1927 and sadly passed away on April 23, 1993. Chávez was one of the founders of the United Farm Workers Union (UFW) and dedicated his life’s work to obtain and maintain equality, justice and dignity for farm workers across the U.S., through tactful non-violent strategies, such as strikes, boycotts, fasts and pilgrimages.
This Saturday, March 29, 2008 The César Chávez Peace and Justice Committee of Denver (CCPJC) will be kicking off the Seventh …read more

Chicago Comes to Denver

Chicago Comes to Denver

When I was a kid growing up in Denver I often fantasized about other cities- were their streets the same? Did they have similar intersections, architecture or graffiti? As I grew into a teenager, Chicago was one of my favorite cities- at least in my mind. I was a retro hippy and devoured information pertaining to the Chicago 8. (Most known to history as the Chicago seven, in my rebellion I kept Bobby Seale in the group.) Once I was old enough to vote, I was living in California and actually got to vote for Tom Hayden. As I became …read more

It’s Mexican, Not Italian…

It’s Mexican, Not Italian…

A part of my birthday celebration was spent at El Padrino. I love this place! It is crazy and fantastic in its craziness. Nothing matches, the Cantina swells in volume as the night goes on, there is always Latino flavored entertainment (sometimes boxing or soccer, sometimes musical shows)- and yet, I feel at home.
The menu is extensive: A platter of prepared meats for $63.00, and by the looks of the platter that is a bargain- on down to Combination plates for $6.95, and a la carte items for even less. I am quite fond of the Chili Rellenos, while Alicia …read more
