Peace Jam
Arvada- the town right next door to Denver may not inspire grand thoughts of revolution or world changing attitudes- yet, it is the home of Peace Jam; a superb forward thinking organization that is doing so much more than those two things by their actions and for what they stand.
Peace Jam Foundation was founded in 1996 by Ivan Suvanjieff and Dawn Engle after discussing Archbishop Desmond TuTu with a few members of a gang. The two were granted an audience with the Dalai Lama, who not only liked their idea, but encouraged them to reach out to other Peace Laureates. After much hard, yet passionate work, a board of directors was formed- comprised of Noble Peace Prize Winners, an outreach established and a “peaceful” curriculum set in place.
In addition to the conferences and their Global Call to Action and the peace work they do within schools and communities- Peace Jam also hosts some of the most enlightening and intriguing lectures- one could ever hope to attend. The next in this series is Friday February 29th with Adolfo Perez Esquivel!
