Broncos and Mammoths and…a Tiger? Oh My!

A Bengal tiger cub was confiscated today in Centennial, Colorado, after police were sent photos of the tiger traveling through Denver in an SUV, and other reports that had come in that there was a tiger living in someone’s backyard. Police moved in today with wildlife agents to take control of the tiger and place him in a safe habitat until they figure out where he will be placed permanently.
Apparently you are allowed to have a tiger in Denver, but only with proper licensing and adequate caging. The owner of this tiger, however, was lacking the license and the caging.

Not only does Denver have a professional football team, a professional baseball team, a professional hockey team, a professional lacrosse team, and a score of not-so-professional teams, but we also have a pro basketball team! I’m talking about the Denver Nuggets! Their home turf is the Pepsi Center, which is conveniently located to many hotels and transportation for the basketball fans from out of state.
The Nuggets suffered a loss over the weekend, losing to the Portland Trail Blazers. However, the team is having a great season so far, with 20 wins chalked up. The next home game is Thursday, December …read more

They are getting ready to kick the season into high gear, and have started off with a bang, winning a pre-season scrimmage against the Calgary Roughnecks 13-8! The Mammoth’s home field is at the Pepsi Center (“The Can” to locals), and tickets can be purchased at the Pepsi Center box office or through Ticketmaster. …read more

The Colorado and Moscow Ballets – Dueling Nutcrackers

The Colorado Ballet has been shaking it up this season with daring ballets and a kicky hip campaign. However, tradition is tradition and The Nutcracker lives on. In the Colorado Ballet’s own words, “We think sugar, spice, and adrenaline are nice. Give your holidays a little shot in the sugarplum.” There are still many performances this week and through December 24th at The Ellie Caulkins Opera House or known locally as ‘The Ellie’. If you have been downtown near The Denver Center Performance Complex you will know you’re close by all the cars trying to get into the parking structure …read more

No TVs, Just Classical Music

No TVs, Just Classical Music

One of the first places Shawn Marie took me when we arrived in Denver was My Brother’s Bar. From the street it looks small and hole-in-the-wallish, I mean, it doesn’t even have a sign out front telling you what it is! Once inside, however, you feel cozy and welcome, like they have been waiting all day for you to wander in.
There aren’t any televisions to distract you, no loud bartenders announcing the gimmick of the hour, no waitresses in funky colored clothing. There’s classical music playing, the menus are written on large boards tacked to the walls, and everyone …read more
